Farewell, Splatoon 1...

This is where we say farewell.

And the wind, it feels a little colder now.

It really is hard to believe that the Splatoon 1 servers (along with the rest of the Wii U/3DS library) are shut down now. It’s such a weird feeling, to say the least.

I have no idea where I would be if I never got into Splatoon 1 back then. It’s done so much for me. Got me interested in a genre I had little to no interest in before, helped me improve my art, met so many great people who are mutuals and friends, hell I even got into making OCs, which I’ve never really done/had much interest in doing before.

Plus just being within the fandom during its lifetime, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it was one of those “You’ve had to have been there” things. It was just an amazing experience all around.

If you told me over a decade ago that this series would do all that for me, I would probably think you’re crazy.

And at the very least, there’s Pretendo, so the servers aren’t truly gone, just not officially supported by Nintendo anymore. I’ll keep an eye on it, in case I ever feel like trying it out for myself.

But for the time being, thank you so much Splatoon 1.
